Social Media's Evolution from Long-Form to 'Push...
If you read this blog then you know we have been pretty excited about Pinterest lately, and how we think it represents a new kind of digital ‘scrapbooking’ behavior.  But here is another really nice way to think about the significance of Pinterest (courtesy of the blogger Elad Gil)… in terms of a new, simpler, ‘push-button’ way to be social.   The shift from...

Help! The Internet is Crushing Me!
Menu and Hours from Michelle Jones on Vimeo. Just heard a crazy stat: 65% of internet users stated that the amount of information coming at them daily had grown year over year by 50%.  And then I read about two new cool web services… 1) this cool new search engine call Sortable.com that lets you “skip the search” - or at least the google part of it - when buying stuff online....

Sgt Dunbar& the Hobo Banned - Who Do You Love by O+ Festival 2011 was the year of the horn.  It seemed to be freaking everywhere this year - from TV on the Radio’s new record to some of the new neo soul/Van Morrison-y stuff that broke through (a la Michael Kiwanuka) to this awesome band representin’ Albany, NY.  Great live show - check em out.

Pinterest & the Scrapbooking of the Internet
When Facebook announced the timeline feature in which you could organize your profile into a scrapbook-like timeline, it signaled a big change in how people are experiencing the internet.  And then I come across Pinterest, which is basically a new totally image-based way to be social.  Not just pics that you take (a la instagram), it is a way to creatively organize and save cool images off the...

Instagram-ization of... Doritos
We’ve been thinking a lot lately about the impact Instagram is having on how we see the world around us.  How things like music videos are getting the grainy, polaroidy, retro-y look.  And then I saw this new limited edition throwback Doritos bag this morning.  Brings me back!

Gif's Grow Up in Freemans Catalog
… Love this usage of animated gifs in the new freemans clothing catalog Great appropriation of an online, user-created phenomena on the one hand, but cool creative way to make the traditionally stagnant clothing catalog format more alive and active on the other Doesn’t feel co-opted in a negative way, feels authentic to the brand Check it out ...

Brownstoner on how business plans should be written on envelopes Great entrepreneurial story from Mr. Brownstoner on the birth of his Brownstoner media empire and the Brooklyn Flea. And for all you MBA’s, he makes a brilliant point around the 17 min mark on the uselessness of big, complicated business plans and innovations.  If it can’t be written on the back of an envelope,...

Every Kid Today is a Hipster
Interesting piece on the mainstreaming of Hipster-dom with youth today.  Through brands like American Apparel it has become a mainstream pop aesthetic you can find everywhere in America, not just Williamsburg or Echo Park. http://thoughtcatalog.com/2011/please-accept-that-you-are-a-hipster/

Bullish on Webcam Creativity
I’ve found that there’s always a question around interactive creative ideas that use webcams.  Like… what’s the penetration of webcams?  Will people bother to turn it on and do it?   With the continued growth of video-chatting on iPhone, Facebook, and now the whole video “hangout” thing on Google+, clearly the idea of digital facetime is growing.  But Two new...

The Hell of Marketing?
According to CNBC, being a marketing manager is one of the 10 most hated jobs in the world.  The reason cited: “lack of direction”.   I would argue this is the best part about this job.  You get to make it up! http://www.cnbc.com/id/44038159/?slide=2

Mobile Phone Sex
According to new research, a third of people would rather give up sex for a week than go without their mobiles, 70% of whom are women.  Enter bad “put your phone on vibrate” joke. http://perezhilton.com/2011-08-11-people-willing-to-go-without-sex-shoes-and-caffeine-rather-than-give-up-their-cell-phone
